21 Dec New year, new you? No way!
The new year is a perfect time to evaluate what served you in the previous one and plan your attack for the one to come. However, before you get bogged down with ‘new year, new you’ messaging from just about every business on the planet, we’d like to set something straight.
There is nothing wrong with who you currently are. We love that person, that person is perfect as they are, and our ‘new year’ wish for you is that you will embrace them too.
In contrast to all those newsletters, TV segments, newspaper articles and social media posts, we’re here to tell you that you do not need to join a gym, lose weight, start eating ‘clean’, or sign your life away to be able to face the new year head on. You are not inadequate, or insufficient, or lacking – in fact, those words describe those who make you feel like you should be anyone other than who you are.
Rather than begin this year by resolving to change the way you look/weight/eat while confetti flies in the air on New Year’s Eve as the clock strikes midnight, why don’t you make this the year to try something a little different? Rather than believe you need to change who you are, why not do the radically opposite and lean into that person and recognise that you’re already enough?
Think for a moment what it would be like to lose the panic you feel every time you go out for lunch with your girlfriends.
Imagine no longer planning your outfit three days prior, only to wake up and still stress that you simply don’t look good enough. Imagine not sweating as you sit in the car, too fearful to get out and ‘face the music’ for eating poorly that entire week. Imagine not stressing about what to order as the waitress approaches your table, in fear of your choice appearing gluttonous.
